Description
The husk of Psyllium is the coating of mucilage around the seed. Psyllium is considered as pure dietary fiber and is the only part of the plant used to manufacture Jyot Overseas Psyllium products.
Psyllium nutritional value consists mainly of B1 vitamin, glycosides, choline, proteins, polysaccharides. The fiber content in psyllium is over 80% in comparison of 10% of wheat bran and 15% of oat bran.
The husk is composed mainly of a fiber known as hemicellulose. Hemicellulose is a complex carbohydrate and is undigestible but it gets metabolised in colon and is beneficial for intestinal flora. Hemicellulose is also present in fruits, whole grains and vegetables.
